More info: Though it is an island, Cape May is a part of a "cape," a strip of land projecting into the sea.
Cape May Point is a tiny community which has no boardwalk, no motels and no liquor. It is well-known for a small gingerbread church, a lighthouse, a concrete ship that lies just off Sunset Beach and tiny pieces of quartz called Cape May diamonds.
Cape May Point State Park is a bird watcher's paradise, with ponds, coastal dunes and marshes, attracting naturalists from all over the world. The park is also home to iconic landmarks including the Cape May Lighthouse, Fire Control Tower 23, and Battery 223, the remains of a harbour defense battery from World War II.
