More info: Padstow has always been an important community because of its position as the only sizeable estuary on the North Coast of Cornwall.
The first stone pier was built in the 16th century and the inner harbour wall was built in 1989. The old town has retained much of its medieval and Elizabethan character and has 104 listed buildings of which St Petroc’s Church, Prideaux Place and Abbey House are the most significant.
Traditionally a fishing port, Padstow is now a popular tourist destination and yachting haven. Padstow is still a working fishing port with many of the local fishermen supplying the many fish restaurants which have recently become a major feature of the town.
There are many attractive beaches and coves close to Padstow. One of these is Bedruthan Steps, said to be the stepping stones of an ancient giant. Constantine Bay is one of the best surfing beaches in the area.
