More info: St Mawes is a small fishing village located on the Roseland Peninsular, opposite Falmouth, on the south Cornish coast.
St Mawes boasts three boatyards with numerous moorings and anchorages for visiting yachtsman in and around the Roseland Peninsula. Much of the dramatic Cornish coastline around St Mawes, was used as the setting for the popular television series Poldark. It is still very much a seafaring community, with boats and yachts continually at anchor in the harbour and beyond.
The St Mawes ferry runs from the harbour to the bustling maritime port of Falmouth. The ferry provides a year round service to passengers with up to three ferries an hour in the summer and an hourly service in the winter months, providing a service to both visitors and locals alike.
St Mawes castle was built in the 16th century as part of the coastal defences and with its three huge circular bastions and gun ports, it is a fine example of Tudor military architecture. The castle is open all year round.
St Mawes is considered to be home to one of the oldest small Cornish bakeries in the county of Cornwall. The St Mawes bakery is estimated to have been founded in 1912 by the Curtis family (the current owners), although the bakery's premises are probably much older (dating back to the 1800s).
