Tinos is an island with a rich tradition in marble sculpture and there are many marble quarries scattered around the island. Tinos is aslo known for its traditional dovecotes which are fortress-like stone structures with intricate, elaborate patterns. The number of dovecotes is said to exceed 600 and they are usually built in the countryside at specific locations near cultivated areas and where water is easily available.

One of the most interesting sites in Tinos is the Monastery of Virgin Mary Evangelistria, which is believed to be a miracle-working church and many pilgrims make their way to the Monastery on their knees from the port of Tinos.
