More info: One of the most well known and popular dishes in Asian street food is Pad Thai. The classic noodle dish from Thailand is made from rice noodles, eggs, fish sauce, tamarind paste, garlic, palm sugar, Thai chilli pepper and dried shrimps. It is topped with crushed peanuts, chilis and vinegar and more fish sauce of course!
Another well known dish in Asian street food is stinky tofu which is sold at night markets and roadside street stalls across China. The fermented tofu offers a tasty treat and an assault on the nose all at the same time. It can be enjoyed deep-fried, steamed, stewed or cold and is usually accompanied by a spicy chilli sauce . It is said that the stinkier the tofu, the more delicious the dish!
Also well known is Nasi Goreng which translates to ‘fried rice’ and is found in both Indonesian and Malay street food. The classic dish comprises stir-fried rice, garlic, shrimp paste, sweet soy sauce, shallots, tamarind and chilli. Various meats, vegetables and seafood are then added. Compared to the more famous Chinese fried rice, it has a stronger and spicier taste.
