There are three main channels that join the Pacific Ocean to the Hauraki Gulf, being the Cradock channel, Jellicoe Channel and the Colville channel.
The webcam is located on the south west corner of the Hauraki Gulf at the entrance of the Waitemata harbour.
More info: In the daytime, the camera has views of the southern areas of Hauraki Gulf, including Maungauika volcano (North Head), Bean Rock, Motukorea Volcano (Browns Island), Tamaki Strait, Torpedo Bay, St Heliers Bay, Mission Bay and East and Central Auckland. There is a partial view of the Rangitoto Volcano with distant views of the Coromandel ranges and Firth of Thames.
At night the webcam has views of Auckland city skyline.
Hauraki Gulf has over 50 Islands from the large inhabited ones like Great Barrier, Waiheke and Kawau to the smaller secluded Islands like Beehive and Saddle.
Hauraki Gulf is well known for its fish and other wildlife and it is common to see Dolphins and Whales all year round. The Gulf also has some world class fishing spots and large game fish can be found in the deeper waters.
