Mackinack Island is situated in Lake Huron, at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac, between Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas.
The Grand Hotel was built in 1887 and has 397 uniquely different rooms, modern amenities and original architecture, as well as stunning views across the Straits of Mackinac.
More info: Mackinac Island is approximately 8 miles (13 km) in circumference and 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2) in total area. Historic Fort Holmes is the highest point of the island.
The island can be reached by private boat, ferry, or by light aircraft and, in the winter, by snowmobile over an ice bridge. Motor vehicles have been prohibited on the island since 1898 so travel on the island is either by foot, bicycle, horse or horse-drawn carriage.
