Curacao is a Lesser Antilles island in the southern Caribbean Sea, about 65 km (40 miles) north of the Venezuela coast. Curacao is divided in two by Sint Anna Bay. The pedestrian Queen Emma pontoon bridge connects the two sides and opens to allow ships to sail in and out of the harbor.

More info: Downtown Willemstad and the harbour are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are numerous colourful Dutch-style gabled houses in the town and important buildings of Willemstad include Fort Amsterdam, the Dutch Reformed Church and the Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue, from 1732, which is the oldest synagogue in continuous use in the Western Hemisphere.

Most tourists visit Curacao from the Netherlands, the eastern United States, South America and other Caribbean islands. Curacao has been a Caribbean leader in regards to cruise ship tourism growth.

The northern seabed drops steeply within 60 m (200 ft) of the Curaçaoan shore. This drop-off is known as the "blue edge" and is popular with scuba diving tourists. Coral reefs for snorkeling and scuba diving can be reached without a boat.

The southern coast of Curacao has calm waters as well as many small beaches, such as Jan Thiel and Cas Abou. At the westernmost point of the island is Watamula and the Cliff Villa Peninsula which are good locations for drift diving. The coastline of Curacao features numerous bays and inlets which are popular mooring locations for boats.
