More info: Ameland is one of the Dutch Wadden Islands, off the north coast of the Netherlands.

The Ameland ferry service is provided by Wagenborg Ameland, also known simply as Ferry Ameland. Traveling to Ameland is possible with the normal ferry (50 minutes) and the express ferry (20 minutes). The ferry from Holwerd to Ameland leaves every hour. In the summer months there are extra departures during busy days.

The fourth Wadden island of The Netherlands belongs to the province of Friesland. It has impressive sand dunes and the Het Oerd nature reserve.

The lighthouse near Hollum on Ameland has stood since 1880. Climbing to the top gives visitors a panoramic view of the Wadden Sea, the North Sea, the town and a large portion of the island.
