More info: Istanbul Airport in Turkey, serves more than 350 domestic and international destinations in 110 countries. It has undertaken all the passenger flights from Ataturk Airport which now only provides cargo, general aviation amd maintenance services.
Istanbul Airport was officially inaugurated on 10/29/18, coinciding with the 95th anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic.
The Airport was designed by London-based firm Grimshaw, with Haptic and Nordic, and features revolutionary and contemporary design inspired by Istanbul's Ottoman legacy. The transit hall in the main terminal is in the shape of the Bosphorus Strait. The terminal features a canopy dotted with skylights, floor-to-ceiling windows, one of the largest duty-free shopping areas worldwide and play areas for children.
The ATC (Air Traffic Control) tower is designed in the shape of a tulip which is the National symbol of Turkey.
