More info: The Shelter Island Ferry is run by the South Ferry Company and provides a service between Shelter Island, New York to North Haven, New York. The ferry carries both passengers and vehicles and the crossing takes just 8 minutes. It is a family business which has been running since the 1700s.

The Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island has 11 miles of coastline and is considered one of the richest habitats in the Northeast. The 2,039 acre preserve is known as the “Jewel of the Peconic” and covers a third of the island with interlacing tidal creeks, mature oak woodlands, fields and freshwater marshes.
