More info: Cadiz is an ancient city and port in Andalucia in Southern Spain. Its importance formed by its strategic military and commercial location on the Atlantic Ocean and by its situation at the entrance to a large sheltered bay.

Cadiz is the home of the Spanish Navy and the Rota Naval Base, located approximately 10 kilometres from the city of Cadiz, is used by both the Spanish and US navies.

Cadiz became famous all over the world due to its watchtowers. Most of the watchtowers were built in the 17th and 18th century at merchants houses, when Cadiz was the official entrance port of all the arriving merchandise from America. Merchants made up the Many “Gaditanos” (citizens of Cadiz) at this time. Each merchant wanted to be able to see his ships arriving in the harbour, and each watchtower had its own flag so that the ships could identify them from far away.
