The Seven Sisters ( in the centre of the view ) are a group of seven skyscrapers in Moscow designed in the Stalinist style. They were built from 1947 to 1953 in an elaborate combination of Russian Baroque and Gothic styles. They are one of the leading architectural legacies of the Stalinist period.
Stalins plan was to construct eight skyscrapers that would rival the then recently completed skyscrapers in the USA and Europe. The Seven Sisters include Moscow State University, Hotel Ukraina, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Leninsgraksaya Hotel, the Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building, the Kudrinskaya Square Building, and the Red Gates Administrative Building. The skyscrapers were built in the form of a ring to emphasize the radial layout of the city.
