More info: The city of La Puebla was founded in 1532 and lies on a broad plain 7,093 feet (2,162 metres) above sea level. It has an important strategic position on the route between Mexico City and the port of Veracruz to the east on the Gulf of Mexico.
Puebla is famous for its decoorative glazed Talavera tiles which were introduced by early residents from around Talavera de la Reina in Spain.
One of the largest and most ornate churches in Mexico is the 16th to 17th century Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located in the central plaza of Puebla.
